Windows buries your files deep in the user stack, so a reinstall takes them with it. We fix that first: your files get their own drive or partition, kept apart from the operating system. Reinstall the OS as often as you like — your data stays put. On Linux, the same idea is built in: your home folder lives on its own partition and survives a fresh install natively.
